100thousand Pencils Project visits a Dumagat community

The 100thousand pencils project team was greeted with warm smiles and hearty hospitality during its visit to the Agta Dumagat community of Sitio Kinabuan, Sta. Ines, Tanay, Rizal. The team led the distribution of school supplies and other teaching materials to 85 Dumagat children. It was an afternoon full of fun-filled learning activities.

Part of the experience is the two-hour trek to Sitio Kinabuan, where the team got to see and feel up close Sierra Madre's mountainous forest. Crossing nine mountain streams and rivers is definitely one of the most memorable part of this incredible experience.

The third and also the last leg of this year's outreach activities, the team's visit to the Dumagat community may be considered one of the most relevant.  During the short stay, the team heard and talked about the sentiments of and issues confronting the indigenous community.

Again, our sincerest thanks to all the support that we have received this year. See you on our next outreach activity! (Photos grabbed from Aiza)

12 kids from Pilapila Elementary School now ready for school

A big thanks to all our sponsors and donors! The first leg of our annual outreach activity was a big success. Because of these past months' fund raising activities, we were able to help 12 kids from Pilapila Elementary School in Binangonan, Rizal get ready for school. After this fruitful event, these 12 kids can now go to school with their complete set of school supplies.

We still have 2 schools to visit this May and June and about 90 more kids to help. We are still accepting donations.

Our advocacy

Due to poverty, many families struggle to send their children to school. Since most of their families’ incomes are spent on food, a lot of children start school without tool for learning such as pencils, paper, and other educational materials.

This situation prompted us, a group of friends mostly alumni of Rizal National Science High School, to take action. In 2005, we successfully organized our first outreach project by donating school supplies to incoming Grade 1 students in Brgy. Boor in Cardona Rizal.

The experience taught us that even a small act can make a big difference, and made us realize that much is still needed to be  done and more children deserve proper education.

What started as a one-time outreach project became a yearly activity since 2010.   We are very grateful to the increasing support we received that contributed to the success of these projects:

May 2010 – Brgy. Malakaban, Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal

May 2012 - Brgy. Malakaban, Talim Island, Binangonan, Rizal

May 2013 - Brgy. Villa Cerveza, Victoria, Oriental Mindoro (Mangyan community)

May 2014 – Brgy. Nayon, Tanay, Rizal (Agta Dumagat community)

May 2014 – Brgy. Pila-pila, Binangonan, Rizal

This May 2015, we are organizing another outreach project to help children get ready for school. Join us!

Our goal

Our goal is to raise resources to provide supplies (notebooks, pens, pencils, erasers, paper, art materials, chalkboard, chalks, etc.) for the children and for the teachers.
